THE LITERARY MEDIUM

“The medium is the message” — Marshall McLuhan
I was interested in developing this class because, though I have two degrees in fiction, my writing has gone off the page quite naturally. So, I’ve been looking into other modes of the literary and mining them as fun ways to bring new life into my more conventional writing. Also I’m all about form and function.
During a four-hour workshop at an art space in the Methow Valley, writers explored crafting new work in alternative mediums such as video and audio and were given examples of authors incorporating the visual arts into literature. To provide further example of how writing can exist outside of traditional publication, I installed my own multi-media literary work in the space. We used these inspirations to create mini-zines that adapted words into imagery.
CV
A writer and curator exploring the liminal spaces of the literary arts. I am the author of two chapbooks and have fiction, reviews, and poetry published widely. My interest in how words can be experienced has led to solo work and collaborations to create installations, music performances, broadsides, karaoke, and video poetry. I founded and directed Till, a literary organization that offered an annual writing residency, and am currently co-director of Cadence Video Poetry Festival at Northwest Film Forum.
I’m also a very professional professional
